High School Seven’s Tournament — May 7th

The Edmonton Pirates is taking applications for their annual High School Sevens Tournament on Friday, May 7th, 2010. There will be a boys and girls side — all games will be seven minute halves, with the exception of the championship games, which will 10 minute halves.

COST: $200/team (maximum of 10 players)

START TIME: First games start at 4 PM, with games running every 20 minutes

**NOTE TO PIRATES** We are currently looking for volunteers to help run the tournament. It’s a fun evening and an easy way to work off some volunteer hours. Please contact your reps to sign up.

COST: $10 ticket, which gets you cover (but get there early because you don’t want to get stuck in line) and your first drink (domestic beer or highball).

Level 1 Match Official Certification

This is a one day course aimed at individuals wanting to officiate games with athletes in the Minis, Junior and High School stages of rugby play. This includes refereeing U12-U18 age grade club rugby. This certification is also recommended for Assistant Refereeing senior level games.

Date: Saturday, March 6th OR March 20th (both options available)

Course: IRB Level 1 Match Officials Course

Location: J. Percy Page Centre (Edmonton Westend)

Times: 9am-5pm

Bookings: Large Classroom
THIS COURSE INCLUDES SAFE RUGBY!
Fee: $100.00 for adults
Reduced Fee: $40.00 for individuals under 18 years of age in 2010
Minimum of 6 Registrants for Officials Level 1.

Level 2 Match Official Certification

This is a full weekend course aimed at individuals wanting to to officiate games with athletes in any level of contact, including senior rugby games.

Date: Sat March 13th & Sun March 14th

Course: IRB Level 2 Match Officials Course

Times: 9am-5pm both days

THIS COURSE INCLUDES SAFE RUGBY!

Fee: $150.00 for adults
Reduced Fee: $60.00 for individuals under 18 years of age in 2010

Pirates Submission Challenge II — March 13

You asked for it — we brought it! The sequel to one of the most enjoyable gong shows we put together last year is here! We are now accepting fight submissions for PSC II. It is a SUBMISSION ONLY event being held at the clubhouse for male participants (females must wait until later in the year for their chance, info will be posted). There are no weight classes, but all matches must be competitive. Please submit your fights (with agreement of both combatants) to Levi Fournel by March 1. Any questions can be forwarded to Levi. Stay tuned for the fight card once its been finalized.

Support Our Troops Fundraiser — March 20th

The Pirates have been lucky to have many armed forces men and women come through our doors and play on our teams. In recognition of the job they do protecting our country and others, we are having a Support Our Troops Fundraiser. Details can be found below.

WHEN: March 20th, 2010 @ 2000 (8 PM)

WHERE: Pirates Clubhouse (1904-167 Avenue)

WHAT: Outdoor Military Games (Dress appropriately), XBox 360 Call of Duty Tournament, 50/50 with all proceeds going to the Military Family Resource Centre.

DRESS CODE: Camouflage for civilians, Civvies for members of the armed forces

Indoor Training

Indoor training is scheduled to begin this week and will continue until we have access to our fields. Details are below.

WHERE: 10568 114 Street

WHEN: Thursdays (starting February 4th) @ 6 PM (Women) and 7 PM (Men) — Women are welcome to stay for the men’s training and men are welcome to attend women’s training for increased fitness.

WHO: any current Pirates, any new Pirates interested in playing this year, and any retired Pirates/friends who are looking for a workout (with purchase of a social membership – $50/year)

We will be accepting payments for registrations (both player and social memberships) — cash or cheque only. Cheques should be made payable to Edmonton Pirates RFC.

AJRA Northern Alberta Indoor Rugby Skill Sessions

Alberta Junior Rugby is pleased to bring back it’s indoor training sessions for youth aged 8 years to 16 years, starting in February. Information can be found below.

WHERE: Kinsman Sports Centre (9100 Walterdale Hill)

WHEN: 7 pm – 8pm (please arrive early to make sure all paperwork is complete before 7pm)

COST: $4 per player per session (cash only)

AGE: 8 years to 16 years, inclusive

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: Running shoes and a water bottle.
