Updated: 2021 Minis Season is a GO! Practices Begin June 9&10

We are very excited to announce our minis program for 2021 is ready to begin! Registrations are open for U5, U7, U9, and U11 age categories. All minis players must be registered before attending any training or festival. Our minis program will be utilizing the 12-week, no contact pass being offered by Rugby Canada at a reduced rate for 2021, so please head over to the Registration Page and review the 2021 Registration Guide for a step by step process on how to register. The Respect in Sport program is also required for all parents prior to registering kids for rugby.

Pirates has successfully completed our Return to Play Plan and will be following all the Rugby Alberta and AHS protocol for youth sports. Please ensure you have reviewed the plan PRIOR to arriving at Pirates. There are some big changes during Phase 1 of reopening rugby this year such as no spectators, no facility access (except for washrooms), health check ins prior to arrival, and a traffic flow pattern requirement.

Practices will be on Wednesday’s for the U9 and U11’s (Head Coach: Katherine Poshtar) and on Thursdays for the U5 and U7’s (Head Coach: Jarret Barton) starting June 9 and 10, 2021.  There will be assigned cohorts with a maximum 10 participants with each cohort on different pitches. Here are some examples of the types of activities they will be able to participate in during Phase 1 of reopening.

See you on the pitch!

2021 Season – Return to Play

Hi Everyone! As Pirates continues to navigate Covid-19 and a 2021 season, we have filed our Return to Play program with Rugby Alberta. At this time, we are planning to run whatever type, length, and age divisions of rugby offered to us by Rugby Canada, Rugby Alberta, and under AHS allowances. At this time, under Phase 1, all sports activities are still on hold. We will continue to update everyone as Return to Play progresses. Make sure to check out our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds for club updates, upcoming fundraisers and fun content. Pirates misses our community and club and we can’t wait to get back in action. Thanks.

2020 Pirates and Social Memberships
After the announcement of the Rugby Canada, ARU and ERU return to play requirements, Pirates has decided to not run an 2020 season. Very few clubs within our cohort have had their return to play plans approved. Activities allowed under the return to play plans have to be less than 60 minutes, non-contact and with a small cohort of all registered players who have completed a questionnaire beforehand. No social activities are allowed at all. There are strict requirements for quarantine, testing and tracking which require significant input and volunteer time. After polling active members, we do not believe there is the desire among the membership to submit a return to play plan for 2020. We support this decision by our players to respect and maintain their safety during this time.
Although the Pirates will not be returning to play this season, you can still show your Pirate pride and support the club by purchasing a social membership! A social membership allows voting at the AGM and drink specials (which will be carried forward into the 2021 season). Most importantly, purchasing a social membership supports the clubs and helps offset some of the losses incurred during this difficult time. In addition to not having player memberships this season, many members are unable to volunteer their time to assist in keeping the club running. Please consider purchasing a membership show your support this season.
To get a social membership for the 2020 season, please e-transfer $35 to treasurer@piratesrugby.ca. Please include your full name in subject/message line, if not clear from your email address.
Thank You Pirates, see you in 2021 (or sooner for socials!)
