2020 Pirates Update – April 18

We continue to follow the directive of Rugby Canada with the indefinite suspension of all sanctioned rugby activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, in-person training sessions, matches and tours. This difficult decision was informed by the orders of our national and provincial health authorities and reflects a commitment to the health and safety to all members of the rugby community. Further communication regarding if a season will occur and in what capacity, will be delivered no later than June 30, 2020.

As all clubs grapple with navigating this unprecedented situation, we will continue to engage our membership and remain a strong Pirates community. Although the absence or a reduced season would have a substantial impact on the financial wellbeing of the club, we will continue to operate in a fiscally responsible manner. We project running a larger deficit in our budget this year than in previous years. While we have funds to sustain the operations of the clubhouse, we are actively planning how to mediate the additional loses and member assistance will be vital. Ways in which members will be able to continue to remain engaged with the club and contribute include: participation in fundraising efforts, purchase of social memberships, and contributing your time, services, or skills in any capacity. We will continue to provide updates on these opportunities and welcome feedback with further ideas from members.

Thank you to everyone for your continued understanding and support of the Pirates. Please feel free to contact myself or any other member of the executive if you have any questions or concerns.
